Every seller has a legal obligation to ensure timely delivery of goods to the buyer. If for any reason there is a delay, the seller will contact the logistics company to clarify details and delivery times.

In such a situation, the buyer is entitled to compensation for damages. As a general rule, this is done by the seller. But there are situations in which the obligation to compensate rests with the transportation company.

If your order has not been delivered to you in the specified time, contact the retailer first. Even if the delay is the fault of the logistics company, contact the store representative or retailer first.

Ways to get a refund for a parcel not delivered on time

The seller will provide information about the delivery. In particular, it will tell you which transportation company the goods were sent by.

Here is a brief instruction on how a buyer should proceed in order to receive money for overdue delivery of a parcel from the seller.

Delivery takes, on average, 6-10 days. Depending on the buyer’s location, in practice this period can be up to 20 days.

How to get a refund when shipping a USPS order within one country.

  1. Submit a request to the transportation company within 30 days of purchase.
  2. Provide the necessary materials. You will need the tracking number of the parcel and proof of purchase ( a receipt from the store).
  3. Apply for a refund at a USPS office or post office. This service does not process online or telephone claims.
  4. Complete PS Form 3533. Do not use templates from the Internet, as each application has a unique barcode. You will be given a form to fill out at the post office or USPS office.
  5. Once the US security clearance is done, you will be refunded by cash or bank transfer.
  6. If the refund amount is less, contact USPS service.

When you ship internationally, you have 90 days to request a refund. You need to follow the same steps as when shipping within the same country.

After 30 and 90 days respectively, USPS will not process the claim and the buyer will not receive a refund.

  1. Ask the seller or marketplace administration which transportation company delivers the goods.

  3. Contact the online store for a refund. You can do this by phone, email or via the support team on the website or in the marketplace app.

There are several ways for a buyer to protect themselves from late delivery of an order.

  • Before you buy, check out other buyers’ reviews of this seller and shipping products.
  • Choose transportation companies that allow you to track the location of the parcel and its delivery time by tracking number.

If for some reason you are unable to obtain a refund from the seller or transportation company, you may file a complaint with the trade association, which will be handled in accordance with existing rules and standards.

European countries and the USA have consumer protection laws, rules and standards, and if they are violated, the seller or logistics company can be held liable. But most stores value their reputation, so they fully assume the obligation to make amends.

It is important to carefully study the seller’s policy and file a claim within the established deadlines, if the parcel was not delivered to you on time.
