How to cancel a bid on eBay? This question can arise at a certain stage of your eBay experience. The process of making purchases on one of the largest world’s platforms will become easier if you learn the rules of this marketplace.
When is it Possible to Cancel the Bid on eBay?
It is important how much time is left until the start of the auction:
- You can cancel the bid on eBay at least 12 hours before the auction. It will automatically cancel all previous bids for this lot.
- If there are less than 12 hours left, but your bid was made less than an hour ago, you can cancel it with the seller’s consent. You will be able to cancel only the last bid this way. You need to contact the seller and explain the reason for the cancellation in this case.
In the second case the human factor might be decisive – the seller might overlook your message or not know how to cancel the bid.
There are several reasons to cancel the bid:
- A misprint, for example, incorrectly specified price. In this case you will be able to make a new bid as soon as your bid is canceled.
- The seller changed the description of the lot after your bid. In this case eBay allows you to cancel your bid.
- If it is impossible to contact the seller after the bid (you don’t get reply to your emails or you receive notifications that it’s impossible to deliver your emails to the addressee). In this case you can only cancel the bid.
When is it Impossible to Cancel the Bid?
If you used the “Buy It Now” option, you won’t be able to cancel the bid. You can’t also cancel it in case the auction is over and your bid became winning. Then you are obliged to buy the lot.
NB: eBay is suspicious to users who cancel their bids too often. All such cases are fixed in the Feedback Profile section. It can become a reason to suspend the account. So use the cancellation option only in exceptional circumstances.
How to Cancel the Bid on Ebay
There are 3 easy steps:

There is an indirect way to cancel a bid on eBay but sometimes it might be useful. There is the Best Offer form on the website. If the lot seems overpriced to you (for example you found a better price for this lot), you can contact the seller and offer your price.
The seller has 3 options
- Accept your offer – it means you win the lot.
- Make a counteroffer – it will end up either with the purchase or a refusal from the seller;
- Decline your offer (up to blocking you for the future cooperation).
You will hardly drop the price significantly via the Best Offer option but it is possible to get a 10-30% discount.
Each Megabonus cash back service user has an extra option to save money. You can get up to 1.92% of cash back for every purchase. Please note that cash back isn’t credited if you use the “Make offer” option or your lot has been in the cart for more than 24 hours.
