How to Make Hand Sanitizer at Home Using WHO Recipes

There are some shortages of sanitizers and face masks due to coronavirus outbreak. In case you cannot buy a sanitizer in your local town or order online, you can make it at home.  Taking into account the recommendations of the WHO we created a guide to making a sanitizer at home.

The WHO recommends making sanitizers on the basis of rectified spirit with the alcoholic content 70% and more.  A lot of people think that any alcoholic-based liquids can be used, but this is not so. The virus can only be killed at temperatures of 90.00 °C or liquids with 70%+ alcohol rectified spirit. Vodka won’t suit, as it is 40% alcohol.

Differences between Ethanol and Isopropyl Alcohol

You will have to use ethanol or isopropyl alcohol to make a sanitizer. The main difference between them lies in the ingredients and manufacturing process. Ethanol is made from natural products: rice, potatoes, сorn, or starch. Isopropyl alcohol is made from subsoil resources: oil, coal, etc. It is cheaper and is often used as a purifier, in the manufacturing of perfumes and detergents. Both types of rectified spirits are perfect for cleaning and grease removal. The 2 spirits can be mixed but you should not drink the substance, as this mixture is poisonous.
